Yesterday morning, Carmela Johnson, Ginger Lampli, and Jolie Frankfurth delivered 50 stationary sets to residents at John Knox Village. A small idea of recycling scrapbook pages and calendar sheets into envelopes morphed into a project honoring the history of the elderly.
The project titled: To Honor You as “Grand” is a stationary set with envelopes, stamps, pens, stationary, and an instruction sheet that reads: Please accept the enclosed stationary set as a gift to honor you as a grandparent, grand friend or mentor. We are hoping that you will use this stationary to share some of your life’s experiences with your own grandchildren or other children, and expose children to the information and guidance that you as an older person can offer. If you would like, please send us a note as well, and we will share your life’s experience with a child at our local elementary school.
“It’s the experience of life in a multi-generational, interdependent, richly complex community that, more than anything else, teaches us how to be human.” (printed from Grandparent”s Day Project Ideas)
Laurie Ferguson, Director of Activities for John Knox Village accepted the donations on behalf of the residents. We will keep you updated as to the progress of the letters.
